I absolutely love a cocktail or three and the thought of combining one of my favourite cocktail aficionados with theatre fills me with sheer drunken giddiness.
Mark Hix has opened his first stand alone Mark’s Bar at The Old Vic. Open Thursday to Saturday from 6pm to ticket holders, you can sample the delicious concoctions until 2am. Located up in the Dress Circle and Upper Circle bars you can expect the iconic Hix eclectic design with an illustration by Chris Martin, and artwork by Oliver Durcan, Charming Baker, Jimmy C, wallpaper designed by Mat Collishaw, the famous Mark’s neon by Tim Nobel and Sue Webster and details such as smoky mirrors, ambient lighting, an assortment of furniture sourced by Mark and apothecary cocktail bar. Very snazzy.
The menu looks truly delicious with Espresso Martini’s, Temperley Sours and Vic’s Punch to name just a few, starting at £9 each.
Mark Hix says: “I have always been a huge fan of The Old Vic, so when this opportunity arose, I knew it was the perfect location for our first stand-alone Mark’s Bar. I’m looking forward to enjoying a cocktail during the interval and after the shows.”
Sally Greene, Chief Executive of The Old Vic, says: “We are thrilled to welcome the genius that is Mark Hix to The Old Vic. Mark’s Bar is going to transform our bars into the coolest theatre cocktail hangout in London. Without doubt the hippest place to be when the lights are down.”
So you can be sure the next time you visit the Waterloo based theatre you’ll be supping in the hottest new destination for fabulous fun and cocktails. Cocktails and culture – what could be better?!
